Last week, we ranked the top non-traditional Christmas movies of all-time, and the holiday theme continues today with a list of the best Christmas songs ever. There are so many great songs with different versions that all deserve a spot here, but these are the top ten.
10. “Someday at Christmas” – Stevie Wonder
Many people probably know this song from the Apple Music commercial a couple years ago, but it was originally released in 1967 by Stevie Wonder before the powerful re-release with Andra Day in 2015.
9. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” – Mariah Carey
One of the most popular songs on the list, Mariah Carey’s hit single will probably be played each holiday season until the end of time.
8. “Cold December Night” – Michael Buble
Michael Buble’s entire Christmas album—appropriately called “Christmas”—is filled with great holiday classics, but “Cold December Night” is the only original song on the album. Even though it’s basically new, this song has arguably already joined the ranks of Christmas classics.
7. “Jingle Bells” – Frank Sinatra
Originally published in 19th century, “Jingle Bells” has had no shortage of versions over the years. We went with the legendary Frank Sinatra’s version here.
6. “Silent Night” – Josh Groban
Like Michael Buble’s album, Josh Groban’s Christmas album, called “Noel”, could make up this entire list and there probably wouldn’t be any complaints. Groban’s rendition of “Silent Night” and his other songs allow people to remember what Christmas is really about.
5. “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” – Perry Como
Perry Como didn’t originally write or record “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”, but he was responsible for making it a hit in 1951, and it’s still widely popular every year.
4. “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” – Various
This is the only song on our list that doesn’t have a specified artist, as no versions stand above the rest. You could argue that the best use of the song came by Zooey Deschanel and the rest of the cast in Elf.
3. “White Christmas” – Bing Crosby
Who doesn’t dream of a white Christmas? Bing Crosby made this song a hit in the early 1940s, and it’s hard not to either reminisce about a previous snowy Christmas and/or hope for it each year if you’re someone that loves snow.
2. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” – Frank Sinatra
Frank Sinatra is the only repeat on the list, but his collection of Christmas songs over the years are deservedly a go to every holiday season. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is simply a great song that everyone should enjoy.
1. “The Christmas Song” – Nat King Cole
Not only is “The Christmas Song” our best holiday song of all-time, but it might be the best song of all-time, period. Whether it’s Nat King Cole or someone else singing, it’s basically perfect song and captures the essence of the season.
