Strengths

Very accurate passer. Throws with touch and anticipation. Powerful arm. Compact, repeatable throwing motion. Excellent ball placement when targeting primary read. Leads receivers on deep passes. Finds the open man against zone coverage. Phenomenal athlete. Never-before-seen quickness at the quarterback position. Top-notch acceleration. Makes defenders miss in the open field. Doesn’t take unnecessary hits. Forces defenses to account for him as a runner. Good pocket presence. Can manipulate throwing lanes with different arm angles. Elite accuracy outside the pocket. Deadly on RPOs. Carries out play-action fakes.

Weaknesses

Doesn’t consistently work through all his progressions. Ball placement needs improvement after the first read. Durability is a concern in a slight build/frame. Started just one season at Oklahoma. Baseball looms as a backup plan.

NFL comparison

Russell Wilson – I don’t think it’s crazy to call Murray a miniature Patrick Mahomes, but Russell Wilson is the better comp, as the two are both accurate, very mobile, and throw with similar touch/power despite being “undersized.”

Conclusion

Overall, Kyler Murray is a dynamic quarterback that can and will win from the pocket, but his athleticism and innate ability as a two-sport star is what really makes him worth considering at the top of the draft. Murray will be best utilized in a spread attack.

I like Carr but I won’t mind if he’s there at 4 and we take a chance on him.
