Strengths

Prototypical centerfielder with great range. Athletic and bouncy. Possesses top-tier ball skills. Has several highlight interceptions. Reads the quarterback’s eyes and gets to the spot. Great ball tracker. Puts his body on the line to make plays. Superb body control when the ball is in the air. Deflects or jabs passes away at the catch point. Very good pursuit as a tackler. Turns defense to offense with the ball in his hands. Comfortable covering the slot in man-to-man coverage. Experience playing cornerback on the perimeter. Showed courage dropping in the box. Can contribute as a kick returner. Basically did it all for Delaware.

Weaknesses

Level of competition needs to be considered. Tackling ability will be challenged against NFL opponents. Unlikely fit for box duties at the next level. Eye discipline needs improvement. Instincts are average. Can get out of control by being too single-minded.

NFL comparison

Reggie Nelson – We didn’t see the best version of Nelson in Oakland last season, but he previously led the league in interceptions, and I think Nasir Adderley—who is the same exact size—could do the same as a single-high safety with similar traits.

Conclusion

Overall, Nasir Adderley is a difficult projection because he was able to make some spectacular plays in college, but he also has some holes in his game, and the NFL will be a big jump. I think teams targeting Adderley in the second round should be looking at him exclusively as a free safety.
