Geno Smith | Seahawks QB

The Seahawks have officially signed Geno Smith.

This was reportedly going to happen, and now it's official. Smith will battle Paxton Lynch for the backup job behind Russell Wilson, and he should be considered the favorite to win the spot. Smith was with the Chargers last season after spending 2017 with the Giants and his first four NFL seasons with the Jets.

Geno Smith is signing with the Chargers, according to Adam Schefter.

After spending his first four season with the Jets and last season with the Giants, Smith is moving across the country to backup Philip Rivers in Los Angeles. Smith, who played well in his lone start last season, is one of the better backup quarterbacks in the NFL. He'd be a consideration in deeper leagues if he was forced to play, but hopefully ironman Philip Rivers is able to remain on the field all year again.

Geno Smith | Seahawks QB

Geno Smith plays fine in Week 13.

Smith was in a difficult position making a start in place of long-time franchise quarterback Eli Manning, but he had a solid game against the Raiders. Smith was 21/34 for 212 yards and a touchdown (and two fumbles lost) while adding three carries for 13 yards and also making some plays outside the pocket with his legs. The touchdown was on a dime to the end zone to rookie tight end Evan Engram. He played OK in terms of throwing the ball and moving the offense considering the supporting cast around him, but Smith is not a fantasy option next week against Dallas.

The Giants have named Geno Smith as their starting quarterback.

This is a shocking move, as Eli Manning has started 210 consecutive games in a streak that dates back to 2004 and is one of the longest in NFL history. Head coach Ben McAdoo must believe Manning isn't getting the job done, so he's going with Smith against Oakland. We think the former second-round pick is a lot better than people in general believe and a good fit for the offense, but it's still a surprise because of what Eli's meant for the franchise. This move could save McAdoo's job and gives Smith a chance to establish himself as a franchise quarterback for New York or someone else in 2018. As for this week, he's immediately on the streaming radar in a great matchup with Oakland.

Geno Smith | Seahawks QB

Geno Smith plays great in Giants' fourth preseason game.

Smith was very sharp in the exhibition versus New England, going 10/11 for 111 yards and a touchdown. The Giants might have something with Smith, who it just didn't work out for with the other New York team after he was punched in the jaw. He'll be the backup behind Eli Manning this season, and don't count out the Giants keeping him around to compete for the starting job post-Eli. Smith has a compatible skill set with Ben McAdoo's offense.

Geno Smith | Seahawks QB

Geno Smith plays as number two quarterback in preseason game.

Smith entered late in the second half for Eli Manning and played much of the second half. The fifth-year quarterback was 11/17 for 79 yards and an interception. Smith was played fine, throwing the ball accurately and making good decisions, but he threw a bad interception inside the ten when he was pressured. Still, it looks like Smith is going to be the backup for the Giants this season, as Josh Johnson threw only four passes in the exhibition against Cleveland.

Geno Smith | Seahawks QB

Geno Smith comes in behind Josh Johnson in Giants preseason game.

With Eli Manning not playing in the game, Johnson got the start over Geno. When Smith entered the game, he went 10/16 for 114 yards and an interception. Other than the interception, Smith played well; but he'll probably need to have a great performance to take hold of the backup job behind Manning.

Geno Smith | Seahawks QB

Kimberly Jones says the Giants "like" quarterback Geno Smith.

Smith is seven months removed from his ACL tear, and he's participating in seven-on-seven in Giants' OTAs. Smith has a good skillset for Ben McAdoo's offense, and he reportedly looks good so far. Remember, Smith faced some unusual circumstances with the Jets, but he played pretty well when he was on the field. While the Giants drafted Davis Webb in the third round of the draft, Smith cannot be discounted as a possible replacement for whenever Eli Manning retires.

Geno Smith | Seahawks QB

Geno Smith passes his physical and is signing with the Giants for one-year, $2 million; according to Ian Rapoport.

This was expected. Smith is recovering from a torn ACL, but he'll sign with the team. This is probably the best spot for Smith, as Ben McAdoo's offense suits him nicely. Also, Smith doesn't need to move, and all he'll do is switch locker rooms from the Jets to the Giants. If his recovery goes as planned, Smith will back up Eli Manning in 2017.

Geno Smith | Seahawks QB

The Giants are signing Geno Smith pending a physical, according to Adam Schefter and Jordan Raanan.

Smith fits well with the Giants offense and is a good backup for Eli Manning. He should pass his physical without issue and join the team.

Geno Smith | Seahawks QB

Geno Smith is visiting the Giants, according to Art Stapleton.

The G-Men would be a really good landing spot for Smith. His skill set is a great fit in Ben McAdoo's offense and he should be able to progress well there. There would not be many better fits than the Giants for Smith.
